Morning, depart your hotel for a 2 hours drive passing through oil palm plantations, secondary forest, picturesque countryside and Batu Niah - a small inland town. Proceed to the park headquarters, then by boat to cross the Niah River, followed by a 45 minutes walk on a raised plank-walk (4km long) which snakes through a lush rainforest to reach the Niah Cave entrance. Explore this famous cave system, archaeological sites and primitive hematite paintings on the walls. Observe the bewildering and dangerous manoeuvres of bird-nest collectors climbing flimsy scaffoldings and wooden poles to reach the dark crevasses of the caves to collect the nest during the harvesting season.
